Our Mission

The purpose of Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) Sports Medicine is to provide the LSUA student-athletes with the best health care possible. In association with the coaches, we are responsible for the prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and referral for additional medical treatment if considered necessary by our Athletic Trainer. Through the use of various rehabilitation equipment and techniques along with electrical modalities, manual treatment, and sport specific exercises the athletes are returned to play as safe and quickly as possible while promoting their overall health. It is our goal as Athletic Trainers to offer the highest quality of care while quickly and safely returning our student-athletes to their highest level of competition.

Hello and welcome to Louisiana State University of Alexandria and Generals Athletics. We look forward to having another exciting and successful year of Generals athletics. Throughout the course of the year we know injuries and illnesses will occur. If you sustain an injury or acquire an illness It is the goal of our Sports Medicine Staff to provide the highest quality care as much as possible.

As customary before each student-athlete starts athletic participation, there are sports medicine forms required to be completed. When these forms are completed then each new student-athlete will undergo a physical screening by our Team Physician and his staff. The reason we require our S-A to see our team physician is so he can meet and be familiar with the student-athlete as well as detect any possible findings that might affect their performance. While the screenings are at no cost to you, any finding that might require further evaluations and costs (office visits, x-ray, MRI, etc.) will be your responsibility and not LSUA or their secondary insurance since it will be considered a pre-participation condition/injury.

Also starting this year all student-athletes will be screened for potential cardiac conditions. We had a student-athlete go into cardiac arrest some years ago, and the parents set up a foundation to test other student-athletes as a way to help detect potential conditions and try and prevent future occurrences from happening again. The screening will be at no cost to you, but if there if there is a finding that needs to be followed up by a cardiologist, you will be notified and any charges that are incurred will be the responsibility of the student-athlete parents/guardian after it has been processed through your insurance. LSUA and their secondary insurance will not be held responsible due to any findings are considered a pre-participation condition. If your son or daughter has been or is currently under a cardiologist care, please let us know and if possible, have a copy of the physicians notes and/or a letter on your physicians letterhead stating that the student-athlete is cleared to participate or what the status is at this time.

The medical and consent forms are listed below.  Again, all of these forms must be completed and returned to us before any student-athlete will be allowed to participate in any athletic activity (which includes practices, games, on and off-season conditioning/weightlifting sessions). Please take the time to accurately complete this information needed to ensure that we can efficiently and effectively provide the best care possible. To do this, open the new or returning student-athlete attachment, enter all info requested, your name and date, save it and email them back to Jeff Hammond (jhammond@lsua.edu).

Thank you in advance for taking care of business and look forward to seeing you. Please contact (email, phone call or text) me if you have any questions. If I am unable to take your call, please leave your name and message and I'll get back to you as soon as I'm able.

See you soon
