Billy Perkins joined LSUA Women’s Basketball in August 2022 after previously coaching at Central Community College (Nebraska) since 2017.

The Generals posted a 13-9 mark in RRAC play in the 2025-26 season. They finished 14-14 overall. Sydney Person earned an All-RRAC First Team selection and was named the RRAC Freshman of the Year.

In 2024-25, LSUA posted a record of 23-9 with an 18-6 mark in RRAC play. The Generals opened the season with an 83-70 win over No. 13 Loyola University (La.). Perkins' squad advanced to the RRAC Tournament Championship game against LSU Shreveport and earned a bid to the NAIA National Tournament for just the second time in program history. Dannah Martin-Hartwick earned her third selection to the All-RRAC First Team, while Jewel Jones earned All-RRAC Second Team honors, and Benedetta Peracchi earned All-RRAC Honorable Mention and was named to the RRAC Champions of Character Team. Perkins' recorded his 50th win at LSUA on January 30 against Paul Quinn College, 80-69.

The 2023-24 season marked the second season for Perkins as the Generals' bench boss. He led LSUA to a 23-8 overall mark, including a 19-3 record in RRAC play, earning him RRAC Coach of the Year honors. It was the most wins in a single season for the women's basketball program, eclipsing the 2018-19 mark of 22. Dannah Martin-Hartwick (First Team), Jewel Jones (Second Team), Benedetta Perachhi (Honorable Mention), and Amani Gray (Honorable Mention) earned RRAC All-Conference selections. Martin-Hartwick was selected to the Champions of Character Team. The Generals averaged 69.6 points per game and held a 12.9 scoring margin.

In his first season at LSUA, Perkins guided the Generals to a 12-16 record with an 11-9 mark in RRAC play. Dannah Martin-Hartwick (First Team), Alex Harrison (Second Team), Raegan Ojoro (Honorable Mention), and Amani Gray (Honorable Mention) earned RRAC All-Conference honors. Martin-Hartwick earned a Champions of Character Team selection.

Perkins led CCC to its first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 9 title in school history during the 2019-20 season along with the regular season championship. That same season, forward Monica Brooks was named NJCAA Third Team All-American, the first player in program history to earn All-America honors.

Under his tutelage, ten CCC players earned All-Region 9 honors and five earned All-Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference (NCCAC) honors. He was named NCCAC Coach of the Year twice and Region 9 Coach of the Year once.

Academically, Perkins' teams have been solid with 14 players earning NJCAA academic honors and a consistent team GPA of 3.0 or higher each year. In 2019-20, the Raiders sported a 100-percent graduation rate.

Perkins coaching career also includes coaching 19 years in the competitive high school ranks in Texas, 10 of those years he spent as a girls head coach, and amassed over 300 career wins. Perkins spent his final season as a high school coach in the Lone Star State rebuilding the girls program at Iowa Park High School, where he led his young squad to a postseason berth.

Perkins obtained his undergraduate degree from West Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Sul Ross State University.

Perkins and his wife, Celesta, who is the LSUA Women’s Basketball assistant coach, are the proud parents of four children.
