Phillips Unbelievable Day In Goal Isn't Enough As Generals Fall In RRAC Final In OT

Texarkana, TX -- The Generals season came to a close in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon falling to Texas A&M University Texarkana in Overtime 1-0.

The first half saw both teams with multiple opportunities to score, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.  TAMUT had two penalty kicks awarded to them in the first half, but LSUA goalkeeper Eva Phillips came up with two amazing saves.  The first penalty kick saw her lay out to her right tipping the ball just outside of the post.  In the second penalty she dove to her left making another unbelievable save back into the field of play, but LSUA defenders were able to come to the rescue forcing a rebound shot wide of the goal.

LSUA had chances of their own on back to back corner kicks that found the feet of Generals inside the box, but were unable to convert.

With the Generals having played an OT game on Thursday, the second half they came out with some weary legs, but were able to withstand several attacking runs by the Eagles.  The tipping point in the second half came with about 20 minutes to go when Micah Pond received her second yellow card on the day and was sent off, forcing the Generals to play a Women down the rest of the half and into OT.

With only 10 players, LSUA defended as best they could, but gave up a goal halfway through the first overtime period and were not able to produce many scoring chances and the Eagles held on to earn the automatic bid to the NAIA Women's Soccer Tournament next week.

The Generals had an extremely successful season.  They rode a six game winning streak into Saturday's championship game and were able to achieve so much more than was predicted of them having not made the conference tournament a year ago.
