Walnut Ridge, Ark.—The LSUA women's soccer team visited the Williams Baptist Lady Eagles and came away with a 9-2 win in their first game of the season.
LSUA (1-0) started the match giving up an early goal to the Lady Eagles at the 7:32 mark with Maryn Jones assisted by Livvie Campbell.
After the Williams Baptist goal, the plan continued the same for the Generals and it did not take long for the equalizer. LSUA won the ball at the wide right side of the field and brought it into midfield, where a beautiful ball through was played across. After a defensive mistake,
Sophie Borhi was able to put the ball away for the goal.
Shortly after the equalizer, senior
Andressa Araujo put the ball it in the back of the net, placing the Generals in front for the first time.
Before the end of the first half, LSUA was able to increase the lead with two more goals by
Svenja Klamt and
Sophie Borhi, who was assisted by
Svenja Klamt ending the first half with the Generals leading 4-1
LSUA and WBU came back to the second half and after 20 minutes LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond made a few changes to the lineup helping the Generals to keep the pressure on the Lady Eagles.
At 62:20, LSUA's
Micah Pond scored to increase the lead, but three minutes later a goal by WBU's Thaina Cavalcante put the score at 5-2.

The final result, 9-2, is a great start of the season for the women's soccer team and sets the bar high for the upcoming season.
"Fantastic result today against a competitive side," said LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond. "It was a great team effort from the whole squad. We played some very exciting & aggressive attacking football and we we're rewarded with the amount of goals we scored. Looking forward to enjoying the result & we'll switch focus on Monday to being better for our next game on Thursday."
The Generals will be back in action next Thursday as they stay on the road against Bethel in Mckenzie TN.
