You can feel it in the air.
There is definitely a buzz building around the
LSUA Men's Soccer team (1-4-1) as they are set to take on
University of Houston-Victoria (3-2-1) this Thursday at home.
The Generals are coming off a tough loss at home to no. 19 ranked William Carey. However, that has not limited the excitement surrounding the game.
New Interim Head Coach,
Mackenzie Young will now lead his team for the first time to begin conference play. Young, a former player himself, finds the opportunity exciting and is looking to reroute his team following a tough preseason schedule. Despite the noise, coach Young was adamant about his players only focusing on things that are within their control.Â
The Jaguars have had a strangle hold on regular season championships; winning the three years dating back to 2019. This rivalry runs even deeper considering that both teams have traded turns as the
RRAC Tournament Champion since 2016.
The Generals have their work cut out for them, but don't tell that to star defender
Keelin Foley. The senior captain shared his thoughts on the match-up and playing for his new coach.
"We are excited about this season and you can notice the difference in practice", said Foley. "Guys are stepping up and hoping to make a big impact for our coach. He understands us and we want to play hard for him. I am just excited to get play underway."
LSUA has dropped the last two meetings to Houston-Victoria, but hope to change their previous fortunes this week. The all-time series between the two schools is 8-3-1 in favor the Jaguars.Â
Game time is set for 3:30pm at Generals Field.
