LSUA Women's soccer team is set to take on the University of Houston-Victoria in their conference opener on Thursday afternoon.
The Generals (2-2) are poised to make a statement win en route to potential 1-0 start in conference play. LSUA has not won the conference since 2017, but are primed to do so this season with a strong showing on Thursday.  Last season the Generals dropped their conference opener to Jaguars in Houston by a score of 1-2; however, majority of that team returns this fall with plans to avenge last years defeat.
Houston-Victoria (3-1-2) is hoping to get their season back on track after splitting the last two games on the road in Oklahoma with a loss and tie respectively.
The Jaguars consistently field a steady and competitive team with this year being no exception.
Â
LSUA knows exactly what is in front of them and according to their coach,
Mark Hammond, the goal is simple.
"We have to become more resilient defensively", said Hammond. "We have put in the work and my players are ready. We have worked hard in practice and I want a clean sheet for our efforts."
If the fiery passion from their head coach was not enough, senior captain
Tatiana Garcia echoed those remarks and is determined not to settle for anything less.
"We loss this game last year and we remember. We are better than people think", said Garcia. Our team is working hard everyday and I know we can get a clean sheet."
LSUAÂ is fortunate to have some fire power on their side withÂ
Andressa Araujo becoming LSUA's career points scored record holder last week. Â The senior forward will have the opportunity to double up in record books in as many weeks by capturing the career goals scored record. She only needs two goals to accomplish the feat, while simultaneously helping set the tone for conference play.
Game time will for the home team Generals will get underway at 1pm followed by the men's teams at 3:30pm. Â
