Togetherness and Grit Lifts Generals Over Steers

ALEXANDRIA, LA- Déjà vu moment at The Fort as the matchup between the Generals and Steers came down to the last minute just as it did when the Generals took on the Steers at Texas College.

During the first match up between the two teams, the Generals were able to seal the win with 10 seconds left of play. The rematch in the Fort had the same type of ending.

A true game of gritty basketball as the Steers and Generals traded baskets for the entirety of the game not letting each other have over an 8-point lead.

Te'Aire Hambrick was able to keep the Steers in the game as she went 8-14 from the three-point range finishing with 30 points. The Steers looking to her to hit just one more shot as the game was in favor of the Generals with a score of 72-70 with 20 seconds left. As the ball was inbounded to Hambrick, a steal from Jade Brumfield and a foul by the Steers sent Brumfield to the line with 2 seconds left. A good free-throw from Brumfield set the Generals over the Steers with a final of 73-70 as there was not enough time left for the Steers to try and send the Generals into overtime.

Despite a low shooting percentage of 39% for the Generals, they were able to win the battle of the boards out rebounding the Steers 46-24. 15 of the Generals points also came from executing off turnovers from the Steers.

As Raegan Ojoro played her final game in the Fort, she left it all out on the court as she led the team with 19 points and finished with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

"I am so proud of this team with the gritty win against TC", said Perkins, "We battled all game and we stayed together and got a win".

The Generals will be looking to make a run in the Conference Tournament which starts February 24th.
