ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball opens the 2024-25 season on Monday, October 28, against No. 13 Loyola University (La.). The Generals then travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on NCAA Division I opponent, No. 7 Louisiana State University in an exhibition. The final game of the week is a home game against the University of Mobile.
"This week is going to be a long week playing three games in six days," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "We start out the week with No. 13 Loyola which is going to be a really tough game and always a very well coached team. Wednesday, we head to Baton Rouge to play against on the best teams in the nation. Finally, we will wrap up with a weekend contest against Mobile and they are always competing in their league but will be very athletic, fast, and physical. This week will be tougher but we are looking forward to competing and seeing hour our team responds to each game."
The Generals were selected to finish third in the Red River Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING NO. 13 LOYOLA (La.)
The Wolf Pack open their season on the road on Sunday, October 27, at No. 14 LSU Shreveport prior to making the trip to Alexandria. Last season, Loyola finished 26-5, including a 15-3 record in the Southern States Conference.
The 2023-24 season ended in the third round of the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship in a 58-55 overtime loss to No. 6 Carroll College (Mont.).
Caitlin Travis returns as the leading scorer for the Wolf Pack, following the departure of Sandra Cannady and Taylor Thomas. Travis averaged 9.1 points per game last season in 31 appearances. She made just six starts and averaged 19.3 minutes of action. Travis shot 47.2 percent from the floor (101-for-214). The Wolf Pack averaged 75.48 points per game and finished the season shooting 41.9 percent from the floor as a team. They shot 29.5 percent from deep and 69.5 percent at the free throw line.
The Wolf Pack recorded 42.3 rebounds per game with Alissa O'Dell leading the returners. She finished second on Loyola with 5.2 rebounds per game. O'Dell made 31 appearances and started 26 games, averaging 21.1 minutes per night.
The Generals are 1-5 since 2018 against Loyola (La.). LSUA's last victory over the Wolf Pack came on October 28, 2018 in a 77-75 contest.

SCOUTING NO. 7 LSU
The Tigers are coming off a 31-6 season which saw them post a 13-3 mark in SEC play. LSU's season came to end in the NCAA Elite Eight to a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa squad. The Tigers hosted Xavier (La.) in an exhibition and took down the Gold Nuggets 114-53.
LSU was near perfect at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, posting an 18-1 record at home.
The biggest departure for the Tigers was Angel Reese, who was selected seventh overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Coach Kim Mulkey returns as the Tigers' bench boss for her fourth season. Returning for Mulkey are Second Team All-SEC Flau'Jae Johnson, First Team All-SEC Aneesah Morrow, Last-Tear Poa, and SEC Freshman of the Year Mikaylah Williams.
LSU's roster is bolstered by transfers Jersey Wolfenbarger and Mjracle Sheppard. Wolfenbarger joins the Tigers from the Arkansas Razorbacks, while Sheppard transferred from Mississippi State.
Johnson, Morrow, and Williams all earned Preseason SEC Coaches All-Conferences
Morrow finished second in scoring for LSU last season, averaging 16.4 points per game, behind Reese. Johnson finished third on the Tigers, pouring in 14.9 points per games, with Williams right behind her at 14.5 points. The Tigers shot 46.2 percent from the floor in 2023-24, including 32.7 percent from deep. They held a clip of 74.5 percent at the charity stripe. LSU averaged 85.9 points per game and held opponents to just 63.3.
Reese led the Tigers' squad in rebound, hauling in 13.4 boards per game, while Morrow finished second with an even 10.0 rebounds per night. LSU averaged 46.2 rebounds per game, while holding opponents to just 33.5.

SCOUTING MOBILE
The Rams are coming off a 26-7 with a 16-4 record in conference play. They open their season on Saturday, October 26, against Pensacola Christian College.
Alanna Donaldson returns as the top scorer for the Rams. She averaged 13.7 points per game last season, second on the squad to Erica Jones' 17.5 PPG. Donaldson shot 47.9 percent from the floor and 42.7 percent from deep. The Rams averaged 71.7 points per game while shooting 40.8 percent from the field.
MacKenzie White returns as the Rams' leader in rebounding, hauling in 209 total boards. She also recorded 66 steals and 24 blocks. As a unit, the Rams grabbed 41.2 rebounds per game.
The Generals fell to the University of Mobile on December 30, 2023, 71-49, in their last meeting.
