Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Take Down Mobile, 71-68

ALEXANDRIA , La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team came from behind to beat the University of Mobile, 71-68.

The Generals (2-0) trailed by as much as 17 in the second quarter, before mounting their comeback.

Dannah Martin-Hartwick led the Generals with 16 points. She went 4-for-9 from deep and sank five of her six free throws. Blair Smith recorded 15 points and finished 5-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 at the line. Jewel Jones finished with 13 points, including knocking down seven free throws. Benedetta Peracchi also tallied 13 points. She added eight rebounds and a team-high three assists to her totals.

LSUA cut the deficit to eight at the end of the second quarter, but a quick bucket from Mobile (1-1) just seconds into the third quarter pushed the Rams' lead back to 10. The Generals whittled away at the deficit, pulling it down to six, 56-50, with just one quarter left to play.

A three from Jones to open the fourth quarter made it a 56-53 game. Three straight layups by the Rams extended their lead to 62-53. The Generals responded with a 9-0 run, draining back-to-back-to-back threes from Martin-Hartwick and Smith, tying the game at 62-62 with 6:40 left in regulation.

"We had to get some momentum somehow," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "We have the capabilities to shoot, we just weren't getting the open shots in the first half. For us to weather the storm and stay the course, I was proud of us for knocking down the open threes. We didn't have many open threes through the course of the game, they were very good defensively, but to be able to find those three open shots and knock them down, I'm very proud of the girls."

The next three minutes were scoreless. Jones broke the scoreless streak with a pair of free throws as the clock dipped up under three and a half minutes. A three from Mobile put the Rams back ahead 65-64 with 2:53 remaining.

Mobile held the lead until they sent Jones back to the line with 36 seconds remaining. She knocked down both shots, putting LSUA ahead 66-65. With 19 seconds left, the Martin-Hartwick went to the line and converted both of her chances for a 68-65 advantage. She knocked down another free throw with 12 seconds remaining, giving the Generals a four-point lead.

Martin-Hartwick's final free throw proved important, as a three from Mobile with just three seconds left cut LSUA's lead to 69-68. Martin-Hartwick went back to the line with one second on the clock and drained both her shots to seal the victory for the Generals.

LSUA is on the road next week for a pair of games in the Sunshine State. They take on St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Thursday, November 7, before facing Ave Maria on Saturday.
