Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, 71-50

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team won its fourth straight game, taking down Huston-Tillotson University, 71-50, in a Red River Athletic Conference contest.

"I was kind of unsure what we were going to do tonight," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "It's a long week last week, three games in six days is tough on the legs, and then we just finished finals. We have good leadership with our captains. We persisted on playing good defense, getting rebounds, and we pushed the ball well today."

The Generals (10-2, 7-1 RRAC) shot 41.2 percent from the floor on the way to the win. Benedetta Peracchi led LSUA with 16 points.  She finished 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 at the free throw line. Peracchi added seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal to her ledger.

Jewel Jones recorded 12 points. She finished 4-for-9, knocking down a trio of shots from long range and notching five assists. Dannah Martin-Hartwick totaled 10 points and was also 4-for-9 from the field.  Martin-Hartwick tallied four rebounds. Both Jones and Martin-Hartwick recorded one steal. LSUA recorded 23 assists as a team, 26 points in the paint, 12 fast break points, and the Generals' bench chipped in 20 points.

Blair Smith recorded a pair of blocks, while Traeshira Harry notched one.

LSUA shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the first quarter. They held the Rams (5-6, 4-4 RRAC) to just nine points and a shooting percentage of 17.65 percent in the opening frame. The Generals out scored the Rams in every quarter.

The contest opened with a 10-2 run in favor of LSUA. Martin-Hartwick, Peracchi, Smith, and Reese Stephens each tallied at least one bucket over the six-and-a-half-minute stretch. The Generals took a 16-9 lead into the second quarter.

Their lead leach double digits for the first time early in the second. A layup from Smith, followed by a pair of threes from Jones pushed the Generals' advantage to 24-9. The Generals went into halftime with a 36-25 advantage.

After LSUA's advantage dipped to nine just 30 seconds into the third quarter, the Generals went on a 9-0 for a 45-27 advantage. Their lead reached 20 on a layup from Stephens with 46 seconds left in the third, 54-34. LSUA's lead remained at 20 or above for the remainder of the game.

LSU Alexandria is back at home for another RRAC contest on Saturday, December 14. They host North American University at 1:00 PM in The Fort.
