ALEXANDRIA, La. – Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer officially hits the pitch for the first time this season, facing Texas Wesleyan at 4:00 pm on Generals Field after a final exhibition at LSU Eunice on Wednesday. The Generals are celebrating the program's 10^th anniversary and will recognize a host of alums in attendance during halftime.
 
"The lads had a great first week and their fitness levels are high," LSUA Head Coach Mackenzie Young said. "The new players have settled in really well, and our returning players have continued to maintain the standard we set during the Spring semester, which has been great to see. Moving into this week we have our first exhibition versus LSUE on Wednesday night in Eunice, followed by a very important home opener versus Texas Wesleyan on Saturday. Two tough tests for us with both opponents already having a game or two under their belts, we are excited to get going!"
 
ANNIVERSARY RECOGNITION
At halftime, LSUA will recognize men's soccer alums in attendance for their contributions in helping build the first decade of the program. All men's soccer alums are welcome to attend Saturday's fixture and can RSVP with Coach Young (mackenziey@lsua.edu) by Thursday, August 15.
 
SCOUTING LSU-EUNICE
The Generals get their final touch-up of the season with an exhibition against LSU Eunice on Wednesday, August 14. Kick-off is 6:00 pm at the Bengal Soccer Complex.
 
LSU Eunice is coming off a 13-4-1 season, including a 5-0-0 mark at home. The Bengals tallied 61 goals, averaging 3.39 per game. William Saar scored four goals and added three assists for 11 points. He compiled 13 shots, eight of which were on goal. Also returning for LSUE is Santiago Waites. The sophomore forward notched four goals and four assists for 13 points during the last campaign. Bronson Paus made nine appearances in goal for the Bengals in 2023. In 315 minutes in goal, he allowed one goal and made 11 saves.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS WESLEYAN
The Rams finished the 2023 season with a 5-9-3 record, including a 1-4-1 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They scored 40 goals and allowed an equal amount over 17 games.
 
Mathis Guffroy returns to the lineup after leading the Rams with 14 goals in 2023. He added three assists for 31 total points. Guffroy started every game for LSUE. He led the Rams with 50 shots, 28 of which were on frame. Three of his 14 goals came as game winners. Guffroy earned Second Team All-SAC honors for his efforts.
 
The Generals and Rams last faced off on September 7, 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas. LSUA came away with a 3-0 victory. A fixture on the 2023 calendar was postponed.

Admission to men's soccer games for spectators is free. The Generals Soccer Field is located on the back of LSUA's campus between Acorn Drive, Middleton Drive, and Tom Bowman Drive. Seating is located on the south side of the field.
