Preview | Men's Soccer Travels to No. 20 William Carey & Hosts USAO in Non-Conference Matches

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team heads on the road for a non-conference match-up against No. 20 William Carey University on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:00 PM before hosting the University of Science and Arts (Okla.) on Saturday, August 24 at 1:30 PM.
 
The Generals come off a 2-1 victory over Texas Wesleyan to open the season. Orin Mitchell and Adam Sherwood each notched their first goal of the season.
 
"It was nice to get off to a winning start on Saturday," LSUA Head Coach Mackenzie Young said. "The lads have been excellent since pre-season camp started and it was great to see it all put into action. Full focus now on two really tough games this week. The preparations are in full swing and we are looking forward to the challenges."
 
SCOUTING NO. 20 WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY
The Crusaders opened the season with a No. 20 ranking on the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. They are 1-0-1 with a 4-4 draw against LSU Shreveport and a 1-0 win over Xavier University of Louisiana.
 
Kolby Godbolt leads William Carey with a pair of goals, including one game winner. Giovanni Kachan De De Freitas Soares, Teddy Miranda, and Oscar Vallejo have also scored for the Crusaders. William Carey is outshooting opponents 21-14 and 13-5 in shots on goal. Caoimhin McConnell has recorded a pair of assists.
 
Henry Hampshaw and Andreas Kokoska have split the goalkeeping duties through two games. Hampshaw is 1-0-0 with one save and a clean sheet. Kokoska is 0-0-1 and allowed four goals on five shots.
 
LSUA and William Carey squared off during the 2023 campaign, where the Crusaders managed a 2-1 victory over the Generals. William Carey is 9-0-0 lifetime against LSUA.

The Drovers open their season on August 22 at Louisiana Christian, before taking on the Generals on Saturday, August 24.
 
USAO finished 9-8-4 in 2023, including a 4-4-1 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play. They were 5-2-2 away from home. The Drovers scored 45 goals while conceding 36. Matija Malenovic returns to the pitch for USAO after recording team-high nine goals in 2023.
 
Angel Diaz led the Drovers with 19 starts in goal during last season's campaign. He posted 65 saves and a goals against average of 1.47. He added two clean sheets and a record of 9-6-4.
 
Last season, the Generals captured a 2-1 victory over the Drovers at McLaughlin Field. LSUA is 2-0-0 against USAO since 2021.

Admission to men's soccer games for spectators is free. The Generals Soccer Field is located on the back of LSUA's campus between Acorn Drive, Middleton Drive, and Tom Bowman Drive. Seating is located on the south side of the field.
