HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team (2-3-0) dropped a non-conference match to Freed-Hardeman University (4-0-1), 5-2.
"Really poor to go from leading 1-0 and have the match end the way it did," LSUA Head Coach
Mackenzie Young said. "We have a lot of work to do and need to bounce back."
Mnqobi Mbili opened the scoring in the 10
th minute. He curled a shot from the right edge of the box into the net for an early 1-0 lead.
Mbili's goal was the second shot of the game for the Generals. Pablo Dominguez de Leon had the game's first chance in the eighth minute but was stymied by Eduardo Almansa.
The Lions' keeper was called on again in the 23
rd minute, making a stop on
Adam Sherwood.
Mackenzie Vincent then tested Almansa to no avail in the 30
th minute of play. His final save came against
Orin Mitchell in the 62
nd minute.
Mattia Loioli made his first stop in the 21
st minute, keeping a shot Joao Pedro Brandao out. He finished with five saves, four coming in the second half. Loioli kept out a chance from Ts'emane at 53:00, before denying Avery Flener in the 61
st. He was called on again five minutes later, stymieing Brandon Carrillo. Loioli's final save came in the 87
th minute as he turned aside a chance from David Okatney.
The Lions leveled the score in the 16
th minute with a goal from Seabata Ts'emane, the first of four consecutive goals for Freed-Hardeman. The second came eight minutes later from Vincent Georgi for a 2-1 lead. Noah Setterberg scored the final goal of the half in the 43
rd minute, sending FHU into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
A 71
st minute goal from Thabo Mahlaha gave the Lions a three-goal advantage.
Less than two minutes later,
Javier Moscardo notched his second goal of the season for the Generals.
Mahlaha responded in kind, scoring his second of the afternoon for a 5-2 FHU lead.
LSUA finished with 13 shots, six on goal. Eight came in the first half. FHU tallied 19 shots, 10 on goal.
The Generals take on Copiah-Lincoln Community College in an exhibition on Saturday, September 14, at 3:00 PM.
