ALEXANDRIA, La. – The No. 2 Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball rolled to a 96-68 victory over Paul Quinn College for their 13
th consecutive victory.
"First half, we weren't who we really are defensively," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "Shoutout to our guys for making the necessary adjustments at half time. Norris [Williams] is a First Team All-Conference player; he had 19 points at halftime and finished with 25. So, again, shutout to our guys for being able to make those adjustments. We know we are going to score enough points on any given night, it's about us getting stops. The second half defensively is who we are."
The Generals (19-1, 16-1 RRAC) remain undefeated at home with a 9-0 record.
Kashie Natt and
Jakemin Abney led the Generals with 16 points each.
Kaleb Pouncy recorded a team-high six rebounds. LSUA scored 40 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers, 27 second chance points, and the bench recorded 53 points. The Purple and Gold shot 47.4% from the floor and knocked down 12 shots from long range.
The score was even, 17-17, through the first seven minutes of the contest as both LSUA and the Tigers (4-17, 4-14 RRAC) vied for momentum.
With 11:12 on the clock, a pair of free throws from
Jordan Decuir opened a 7-2 Generals run and a 28-22 lead. LSUA hit its first double-digit lead with 4:07 left in the first on a three from
Isaiah Howard. A 6-0 run to close the opening stanza sent the Purple and Gold into the locker room with a 47-35 advantage.
The Generals' offense came out red hot in the second, extending their lead to 20 in the first 3:20 of the second half with buckets from Howard, Natt,
EJ McQuillan, and Abney.
Over the course of the first 12 minutes in the second stanza, LSUA out scored Paul Quinn 34-11 for a 35-point lead, 81-46. The Generals' lead never dipped below 26 for the remainder of the game.
Bryce Journee led the Generals with nine points in the second half. He went 3-for-6 from the field and recorded four rebounds. The Purple and Gold shot 50% from the floor and 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the second stanza.
