ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team drew against Texas A&M-Texarkana, 0-0, in a Red River Athletic Conference match.
"Very frustrating to not get over the line with a win today," LSUA Head Coach
Mackenzie Young said. "Draws don't' get you anything, it's a point in the table but it should have been a win today. It definitely feels like we dropped two points there. We just need to regroup, refocus, and get back to work next week."
The Generals (10-1-1, 5-0-1 RRAC) recorded 20 shots, 11 of which came in the second half. They put five on frame. LSUA held the Eagles (4-4-5, 3-2-1 RRAC) to two shots, both of which were on goal. LSUA also generated 13 corners, 11 came in the second half.
Gabriel Marin had the Generals' first on-goal chance in the 14
th minute, but his attempt was stopped by David Yearwood. The Eagles' keeper finished with five saves. He was called into action again in the 23
rd minute to keep a chance from Pablo Dominguez de Leon out.
Ivan Capurro made his first stop in the 24
th minute, keeping a shot from Damilare Origunloye out. Capurro made two saves on the afternoon.
In the second half, the Generals generated seven consecutive corners over a span of two minutes. They managed shots from
Paul Adler,
Tomas Cabrera, and a headed effort from
Damian Kunc.
In the 66
th minute, Adler had a chance parried by Yearwood to keep the game locked at 0-0.
Capurro made his second save in the 83
rd minute, keeping a chance from Diego Picano from crossing the line on a shot from close range.
Juan Buitrago put the Generals final shot on goal in the 90
th minute and was met by Yearwood.
In the final 10 seconds of the game, LSUA nearly found the game winner but were called offside as time expired.
The Generals are on the road next week with a pair of matches against North American University and A&M-Victoria.
