Generals Herd Lady Steers, 70-60, in Final Game of 2025

TYLER, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team won its final game of the 2025 calendar year with a 70-60 victory over Texas College.

"Texas College is a tough place to play," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "You have to breathe intensity. They are so fast and aggressive that we have to be able to stay composed. We knew it was going to be physical, Coach Evans does a good job and they play to the end. I'm proud of how we stayed composed when we missed some shots.

Sydney Person led the Generals (4-7, 3-3 RRAC) with 18 points. The freshman has scored 10 or more points in all but three games this season. Princis Goff (10) also recorded a double-digit scoring effort and had a team-high eight rebounds. The Generals received points from all but one of their players.

LSUA scored 30 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, and the bench recorded 23 points.

Fae Green scored a team-high 17 points for the Lady Steers (6-8, 4-4 RRAC).

Texas College scored the game's first basket, but it was their only lead of the game. An 8-0 run from LSUA put the Generals ahead 8-2 halfway through the first quarter. They led 16-9 at the end of the period.

Despite their lead dwindling to two in the second quarter, the Generals expanded their advantage to double digits, 27-18, six minutes into the second and went into halftime ahead 36-23.

In the third quarter, the Generals expanded their lead, pushing ahead by 18. They closed the quarter with a 7-0 run with baskets from Blair Smith and Courtlynn Rideau and a buzzer-beating half-court three from Kaitlyn Blake.

"After practice we do half court shots," Perkins added. "She [Blake] has hit three of her last three in practices and on the first time, so I just wanted to get her in and see if she could hit and she knocked it in."

Texas College out scored the Generals 22-14 in the final stanza, cutting the deficit to single digits. Reese Stephens recorded four free throws in the game's final 30 seconds to seal the victory.

The Generals head to break and return to play Louisiana Christian University on January 3, 2026 at The Fort.
