ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team captured a 76-63 victory on Senior Day over Texas A&M-Texarkana, led by their four seniors.
"Very proud of our seniors," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "The whole group has been special, really knowing their role, playing hard, and staying together. It's been awhile since we put a whole game together, so we are headed in the right direction. I'm proud of everyone on the team."
The Generals' (21-6, 18-5 RRAC)) seniors each recorded 10 or more points on the evening.
Dannah Martin-Hartwick led the group with 18, while
Benedetta Peracchi recorded 14.
Amani Gray tallied 13 points and
Jewel Jones picked up 12.
"They've been consistent all year," Perkins said of his seniors. "Very proud of their effort and knocking down shots when we need shots to keep winning games."
Martin-Hartwick scored five points or more in three different quarters.
With the home slate finished for the regular season, the Generals posted an 11-3 mark at The Fort during the 2024-25 regular season. They eclipse last season's home win total (10) and tied the regular season record for most wins at home, previously achieved in 2018-19.
The Purple and Gold also locked up the number three seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament for the second straight year.
Justice Young recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Young also tied the LSUA single game record for blocks, set earlier this year by Gray against Paul Quinn college, with five.
LSUA recorded 38 points in the paint, 23 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points and 14 fast break points.
The Generals out shot the Jaguars (21-6, 18-5 RRAC) 52.94% to 26.32% in the first quarter and held a 22-13 lead. Both teams struggled offensively in the first second quarter, shooting 23% from the floor. The Jaguars held a two-point advantage in the second stanza, 16-14, sending the game to halftime with the Generals leading 36-29.
LSUA went on a 11-2 run to open the third quarter, extending their lead to 47-31. After a three from the Jaguars, the Generals opened another run, this time scoring seven unanswered points for a 54-34 lead. LSUA took a 58-37 lead into the final quarter.
A push from the Jaguars in the first four minutes narrowed the gap to 13, 64-51, but back-to-back buckets from Gray and Martin-Hartwick brought LSUA's lead back to 17.
The Generals' lead hovered near 17 for the remainder of the contest, until the Jaguars scored the game's final four points, closing the game with a final of 76-63.
LSUA is back in action on Thursday, February 20, as they close the regular season on the road at LSU Shreveport. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
