Baker Walks Off OPSU With Grand Slam, Soileau Homers in Win Over TXWES

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The No. 21 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team won a pair of games over Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-2), 15-6, and Texas Wesleyan (0-4), 4-1, to close out the Generals (7-1) Showdown.

"A great weekend," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We knew we were going to see some quality pitching and the mindset was to be aggressive."

GAME ONE | LSUA 15, OPSU 6
Madi Baker walked the Generals off in the opener. She hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to eclipse the mercy rule for a 15-6 victory.

Alyssa Soileau (2-0) went the distance and hurled five innings. She allowed six runs, on 10 hits, and struck out two. Baker went 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBI and a homerun. Haley Fontenot and Kilee Moody each recorded two hits and scored three times. Julia Kwakernaak also recorded a pair of hits, she scored twice. Jillian Howell drove in a pair of runs for LSUA as did Moody.

The Aggies opened the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly. The Generals responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from Baker. Kwakernaak then singled to left, scoring Baker.

OPSU pulled ahead again in the second with a two-run single to left. A two-run homerun in the third made it 5-2 Aggies.

LSUA scored four runs in the third inning to pull ahead 6-5. The scoring started when Moody scored on a throwing error. Kwakernaak then brought in Soileau from third. A double to left from Kaetlyn Dunbar tied the game at 5-5 by driving home Kwakernaak. Kamille Lightfoot then doubled home Molly Sistrunk later in the inning for a 6-5 lead.

After OPSU scratched across a run to tie the game at 6-6 in the fourth, the Generals put up another crooked number in their half of the inning. An RBI triple from Moody brought in the inning's first run. She was then driven in by Baker. Later in the inning, Howell hit a two-run shot for a 10-6 lead.

LSUA loaded the bases in the fifth inning and Moody delivered the first run. She laced a single to right, driving in Lightfoot. Baker then mashed a grand slam to clear the bases for a walk-off victory.

GAME TWO | LSUA 4, TXWES 1
Haley Primrose (4-1) hurled a complete game against the Rams. She allowed one run, unearned, on five hits. She struck out eight hitters and walked just one.

Soileau went 3-for-3 with two runs driven in. She hit her first career homerun in the fourth inning. Moody collected a pair of hits and one RBI. Fontenot and Primrose both notched a pair of hits. Kwakernaak drove in one run for LSUA.

The Purple and Gold's offense forged ahead and opened a 2-0 lead over the first three innings. A first inning RBI single from Moody gave them a 1-0 advantage, before Kwakernaak doubled home a run in the third.

In the fourth, Soileau drove a pitch to straight away center field, a two-run shot, to put LSUA up 4-0.

The Rams picked up an RBI single in the sixth, but Primrose prevented any additional damage by striking out her counterpart swinging to end the inning.
