Generals Season Ends in NAIA First Round

MCKENZIE, TN – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team's season came to an end with an 80-41 loss to eight-seed Benedictine (Kan.) in the NAIA National Championship First Round.

"I'm so proud of the legacy these seniors have left and I'm proud of the whole team for the bar we set," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said.

Justice Young led the Generals (23-9) with 16 points. She finished 8-for-14 from the field, recorded seven rebounds, and blocked a pair of shots. Jewel Jones and Amani Gray also notched seven rebounds each. Benedetta Peracchi finished with six points, four boards, one block, and two steals. Aniyah Roundtree came off the bench and scored five points. LSUA recorded 22 points in the paint and 13 points off turnovers.

The Generals scored the game's first basket, a layup from Young, but Benedictine (25-7) stormed ahead on a 7-0 run over two-and-a-half minutes. Young halted the run with a jumper but a three from the Ravens on their next possession made it 10-4 in favor of Benedictine with 6:08 on the clock. LSUA managed three more baskets in the first quarter, a layup from Jones and a pair of buckets from Peracchi. Benedictine closed the period on a 5-0 run and a 21-10 lead.

Their run continued in the second quarter, scoring the first eight points of the second. The runs continued for the Ravens as the Generals never found a rhythm offensively.
