ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team split a doubleheader against NCAA Division I Southern University. The Jaguars (13-16) took game one, 3-2, and the Generals (31-3) won the backend, 10-4.
"Wasn't happy with the first one," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "I felt we came out flat in the first, we didn't have much energy and gave up three in the first inning. I felt we gave them those runs, they did some aggressive things on the bases, but overall it bit us in the butt. Turn around to game two, we scored in almost every inning and that's what we are trying to do. "
GAME ONE | SU 3, LSUA 2
The Generals managed just three hits in the opener but managed to push across two runs.
Haley Primrose (17-3) held the Jaguars in check after the first inning where Southern scored all three of their runs. Primrose allowed just five hits over seven innings and struck out three.
Primrose drove in a pair of runs at the plate and finished 1-for-3.
Madi Baker notched a two-hit game and scored once.
A pair of throwing errors and two hits gave the Jaguars a 3-0 lead in the opening frame.
LSUA was held off the board until the fourth inning. A bases loaded single from Primrose drove in
Kilee Moody and Baker, but the Jaguars closed the inning without allowing any more damage to be done.
In the sixth and seventh innings, the Generals' lead-off hitter reach but LSUA could not find a way to score. A line drive double play in the sixth ended the threat. In the seventh,
Jaycie O'Conner pinch ran for
Jillian Howell after a lead-off double. After a strikeout, O'Conner moved to third on a grounder back to the circle. She was stranded on third as game's tying run.
GAME TWO | LSUA 10, SU 4
The Generals' offense scored in every inning but the sixth as the bats came alive for 16 hits.
Baker led the Generals with three hits, two driven in, and two runs scored. Primrose drove in a pair and collected two hits.
Rylie Jeau Theriot went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored twice.
Kamille Lightfoot went 2-for-4 with a homerun and drove in three.
Madison Nelson hit her first career homerun.
Alyssa Soileau (12-0) notched a complete game victory. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out two.
The Generals and Jaguars traded runs in the first inning. A single from Baker drove in Kwakernaak to tie the game at 1-1.
Nelson's first career blast came in the second. She drove a pitch just to the left of straight away center for a 3-1 lead. Later in the second, Baker laced another RBI single up the middle for a 4-1 lead.
After LSUA scored in the third, Southern responded with three runs of their own in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Primrose gave the Generals a bit of breathing room with an RBI single before Lightfoot yanked a pitch down the left field line for a three-run shot and a 9-4 lead. Primrose doubled home Baker an inning later for a 10-4 advantage.
Soileau kept the Jaguars off the board after the fourth to secure the victory.
