PINEVILLE, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team fell to Red River Rival (RV) Louisiana Christian University, 4-3.
"We knew LCU was a good team," said LSUA Head Coach
Melinda Descant. "They've been improving, Coach Alexandra Starkova has improved the program each year. We knew the team that played the best would win this match and they did."
The Wildcats (10-9) took the doubles point with wins in the first and second pairings.
Belen Blasco and
Isabella Stuurman won No. 3 Doubles, 6-3, over Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez and Raquel Coelho Rodrigues for the Generals (7-4).
Nahia Echaide won 6-2, 6-3 over Rodrigues in the top spot of singles. Blasco finished next, capturing a 6-2, 6-3 win over Martinez in No. 3 Singles. Stuurman claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Patricia Principal Pineda in No. 5 Singles for a 3-1 lead.
LCU rallied back to claim the even-numbered Singles matches for the 4-3 victory. Both
Kanu Rajawat and
Gianna Panaggio pushed their matches into the third set.
The Generals now head to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
