FAYETTE, MO – The top-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team fell to two-seed Central Methodist University, 4-3.
"Goes to show how important yesterday was," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge. "When you get that first win, it sets you up to play one game a day. Today, we had opportunities. We hit the ball hard. Kudos to them [CMU], they can swing it just as good as we can. Tomorrow is going to be a different story and I feel good about it. We are disappointed in the outcome, but not the way we played. We never gave up."
The Eagles (40-9) scored a run in each of the last three innings. They opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single.
Haley Primrose (25-6) held the Eagles' offense in check over the third and fourth innings. She tossed a complete game and allowed four runs on 11 hits.
Singles in the fifth and sixth innings from the Eagles put them ahead 3-0 before the Generals' (47-8) offense responded.
A productive groundout from
Madi Baker drove in
Haley Fontenot from third for LSUA's first run. Primrose then doubled home
Kilee Moody, cutting the deficit to 3-2. An infield single from
Kaetlyn Dunbar plated pinch runner
Jaycie O'Conner, tying the game at 3-3.
In the top of the seventh, Lauren Hill clubbed a go-ahead solo home run for a 4-3 lead. LSUA was retired in order to seal CMU's victory.
The Generals take on five-seeded Tennessee Southern tomorrow, May 14, at 12:00 p.m.
