MOBILE, AL – The 10-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team advanced in the NAIA Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win over 23-seeded Bethel (Ind.).
The victory moves LSUA's (9-5) all-time record at the NAIA National Championship to 11-9.
"The girls played well today against a solid team," said LSUA Head Coach
Melinda Descant. "We'll have to play well again tomorrow to move on to the third round."
The Generals swept through doubles. Nahia Echaid and
Kanu Rajawat recorded a 6-2 win in the top doubles pairing.
Joline Roesch and
Gianna Panaggio won the number two doubles 5-2 and
Isabella Stuurman and
Belen Blasco recorded a 6-0 victory in the final pairing.
In singles play, Echaide recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kaavya Palani in No. 1 Singles. Stuurman also won 6-1, 6-0 in number five singles over Saige Rinkenberger. Roesch closed out the final finished matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Elyse Yoder in No. 6 Singles.
LSUA takes on seven-seeded Middle Georgia State on Wednesday, May 14, at 9:00 am.
