Softball Bested by Top-Seeded Saints, 5-2

PINEVILLE, LA – The two-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team fell to one-seeded Our Lady of the Lake University, 5-2.

"Like I told the girls, I'm not disappointed," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "When you leave 13 runners on base, you kind of shoot yourselves in the foot. We gave up five runs in one inning, our big talking point was that you have to limit the damage in those big innings, figure out a way to get out of it. You know, they're [OLLU] reigning national champions and regular season champions, so not disappointed in it."

The Generals (45-6) collected nine hits and scored both of their runs in the fourth. Eight different players recorded hits. Kilee Moody went 2-for-2 and drew a walk. Haley Primrose (24-5) went the distance and allowed four runs on eight hits. She struck out two and walked one.

Our Lady of the Lake (44-7) scored all five of their runs in the third inning. An RBI triple plated the Saints first run. A throwing error on the play allowed a second run to cross home. The Saints' third run came across on a safety squeeze and was followed by an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.

A productive ground out from Jillian Howell drove in Kassidy Tucker in the fourth. Later in the inning, Kaetlyn Dunbar scampered home on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

LSUA had runners on in each of the final three innings but could not scratch across a run. In the seventh, the Generals loaded the bases with the first three hitters of the inning.

Back-to-back strikeouts and a foul out ended the comeback opportunity and sealed the win for OLLU.

The Generals take on Texas A&M-San Antonio at 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 4, from Wildcat Park.
