ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of men's soccer team captured a 3-1 exhibition win over Mississippi College.
"Good game today for our boys to get loads of minutes," LSUA Head Coach
Mackenzie Young said. "Mississippi College was a little light on their roster, so it was good for us to stretch ours out a bit."
The Generals outshot the Choctaws 27-7, 19 of which came in the second half.
Mississippi College notched the game's first goal in the ninth minute. Bradford Goodrich sent a cross into the box where it was headed downward by Luke Vinson; the header caromed off Pierson Moyer and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
LSUA's first goal came three minutes before halftime.
Daniel David delivered a cross into the box, toward the far post, and
Mackenzie Vincent knocked it towards the opposite post and over the goal line to level the score at 1-1.
Just under three-and-a-half minutes into the second half, LSUA struck again.
Ben McCarron laced a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and in for a 2-1 lead.
Mnqobi Mbili then found the scoresheet in the 57
th minute.
Paul Adler sent the ball goalwards from close range where Mbili redirected into the back of the net for an insurance marker.
Charlie Young and
Sam Kirby split time in goal. They each made one save.
"I thought the two of them done well," Young added. "Charlie is very good with his feet and Sam is obviously 6-foot-5 and can come out and play the crosses. Two different goalkeepers but two very good ones."
The Generals head on the road for a pair of games in the Lone Star State over Labor Day Weekend. They take on Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, August 30, before playing Nelson on Monday, September 1.
