Fifth Annual Shrimp Jam a Success

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Over 500 people gathered at the Randolph Riverfront Center in Alexandria for the fifth annual Shrimp Jam, hosted by the Generals Athletic Association and LSUA Foundation.

"This was an incredible night of our CenLA Community coming together to support LSUA and our student-athletes," LSUA Assistant Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Tyler Unsicker said.  "What a great way to start this upcoming academic year."

LSU Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Seimone Augustus was the keynote speaker. Augustus was the first overall selection by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2006 WNBA draft, having spent her collegiate career at LSU, where she was a two-time All-American, a two-time Wade Trophy winner, and a two-time Naismith College Player of the Year. She added a pair of SEC Player of the Year and AP Player of the Year awards, two Wooden Awards, and was named the SEC Female Athlete of the Year in 2006. Her number (33) was retired by LSU on January 9, 2010, making her the first female athlete in LSU history to have her number retired. Augustus won gold medals while representing the United States at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics, and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The event raised money to help support student-athletes at Louisiana State University of Alexandria and the work of the LSUA Foundation. A live auction included items such as a weekend getaway to New Orleans, artwork from Lynn Sanders and Leah Morace, multiple culinary experiences, and a private Star Wars film and dinner experience for eight at the Imperial Home Theatre. A silent auction included a host of items, including signed LSU memorabilia.

A shrimp dinner was provided by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.
