Stephens; Career Night Leads Generals Over Trailblazers, 71-68

ALEXANDRIA, LA – Reese Stephens recorded a career-high 19 points in the Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team's 71-68 win over the University of North Texas-Dallas.

"Proud of the preparation with our bodies," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "It's been a long week-and-a-half, playing five games in 10 days. Very proud of how played defensively and our effort."

Stephens finished 8-for-12 from the field and knocked down three free throws. She added two rebounds, four assists, and seven steals – another career-high.

"I'm very grateful for that," Stephens said. "I think we had a few others in double digits as well. We just kept good team ball movement and kept playing hard and that resulted in us getting the win."

Sydney Person and Kelly Norris both finished with 16 points. Addison Walker led the Generals' (7-10, 6-6 RRAC) rebounding effort with eight boards. LSUA scored 34 points in the paint and 28 points off turnovers.

Shandrea Yeldell led the Trailblazers (8-6, 7-5 RRAC) with 17 points. Jade Myles recorded 14, while Ke'Liyah Anderson added 10.

The Generals led for 82.8 percent of the game after taking the lead from UNTD near the end of the first quarter. With 1:13 remaining in the second period, a three from Yeldell tied the game at 32-32. Two free throws and a jumper from Stephens reestablished a lead for LSUA. She added a free throw in the final seconds of the quarter to send LSUA into the halftime break with a 37-34 lead.

North Texas-Dallas tied the game again early in the third quarter on a layup from Anderson, 38-38. A 15-0 run for the Generals gave them a double-digit advantage, and their largest lead of the game, 53-38. Stephens, Person, and McKayla Price pitched in four points each in the run and Norris added three.

The Trailblazers knocked five points off the gap heading into the final period, 58-48.

An 8-0 run for UNTD over 2:14 midway thorough the fourth quarter dropped the Generals' lead to just two, 62-60. After a free throw from Blair Smith, a layup from Channing Beauvais made it a one-point game, 63-62, with 3:13 left in regulation.

A three from Jade Myles on their next possession gave the Trailblazers their first lead since the first quarter, 65-63.

With 1:10 left on the clock, Stephens drove the lane for a layup to put LSUA ahead 69-68. Person added a layup of her own with 27 seconds left to extend the Generals' lead to three and seal the victory.

The Generals are back at home next week to take on North American University and Xavier University (La.) in Red River Athletic Conference play.
