Men's Basketball Handles North American University, 87-65

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team recorded a 22-point victory, 87-65, over North American University.

"In the negative first, we gotta be better coming out of halftime," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "Really good job of our guys starting the gam out the right way on both ends. Our defense led to our offense and that's the way we want to play.

EJ McQuillan led the Generals (13-6, 10-3 RRAC) with 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Jordan Decuir recorded 15 points and shot 6-for-12 from the field, while Kaleb Pouncy tallied 11 points and finished 5-for-6 from the field. TJ James led the rebounding effort, hauling in seven boards. The Generals recorded 38 points in the paint and 17 points off turnovers.

LSUA shot 50-percent as a team for the game.

Joseph Cormier led the Stallions (11-7, 7-6 RRAC) with 18 points. He finished 5-for-6 from the field, including a 3-for-4 mark from deep and knocked down five shots at the free throw line. Oakley Lewis recorded 10 points. North American recorded 22 points in the paint, and 13 points off turnovers.

Kheiri Haynes knocked down a three on the game's first possession and the Generals never looked back. LSUA led for 39:46 of the game's total 40 minutes.

Haynes' three opened an 8-0 run for LSUA in the game's first 80 seconds. The Generals took their first double-digit lead on a jumper from Pouncy with 16:34 left in the first.

A 22-2 run in favor of LSUA later in the first doubled their lead to 20, 46-26, and the Generals went into halftime leading 48-28.

The second half saw just a two-point difference, 39-37, in favor of LSUA but North American could not mount a comeback.

"We knew North American would make a run," Jackson added. "We knew they wouldn't just lay down. Our start to the second half needs to match the start to the first half. I trust we will be able to get that done."

Midway through the second, the Stallions had chipped LSUA's lead down to 14, 61-47, but six minutes later the Generals were up by 20 again, 76-56, with just 5:15 left to play.

Every LSUA player who recorded at least 10 minutes of play time scored at minimum two points.

The Generals are back at home on Saturday, January 24, as they host Xavier University (La.) at 3:00 PM.
