Men's Basketball Wins Nail Biter Over TAMUT, 62-59

TEXARKANA, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team held on for a win in nail-biting fashion over Texas A&M-Texarkana, 62-59.

"A good team win," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "A lot of things didn't go our way but we found a way. There's a lot of areas we have to be better in and our guys understand that. We are grateful for the win!"

Jordan Decuir led the Generals (15-6, 12-3 RRAC) with 23 points. He knocked down eight shots from the field and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line. EJ McQuillan recorded 12 points and was 5-for-9 from the floor. TJ James recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.

Texas A&M-Texarkana (12-7, 9-5 RRAC) was led by Deovaunta Williams' 17 points. He was joined by Daryl Houston (16) in double-digit-scoring. Houston recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds.

LSUA led for a total of 19:17 over the course of the game, while TAMUT held a lead for 17:21. There were 15 lead changes and the score was tied seven times.

The first half was a low-scoring affair, sending the Generals into the halftime break with a slim 28-25 lead. Decuir recorded a trey and two free throws in the final 60 seconds of the half to give LSUA the advantage.

Despite both teams averaging north of 75.0 points per page on the season, neither side reached their average. The early minutes of the second half saw the Generals and Eagles trade points and the lead flip from team to team.

The Generals took their largest lead of the game, 38-31, with 15:43 left in regulation on a dunk from Kaleb Pouncy.

A&M-Texarkana chipped away at the deficit until a three from Jaren Cook with 8:03 left flip the lead back in favor of the Eagles, 47-46. A three from PD McCraney quickly erased TAMUT's advantage and the Eagles tied the game on their next possession with a layup from Williams.

With just two minutes to play in regulation, the Eagles held a slim 55-53 lead. A three-point play from Courtney McCarthy gave the Generals a one-point, 56-55, advantage. It was wiped off the board in the Eagles' next possession with a pair of free throws from Rodney Mason II.

McCarthy drove the lane with 40 seconds to play and drew a foul, knocking down one free throw at the line for a 60-59 lead.

A missed jumper from Williams and a turnover from Mason II forced the Eagles to foul Kheiri Haynes with three seconds left. Haynes sank both his free throws for a 62-59 lead.

The Eagles inbounded and managed to find Williams for a three-attempt to tie the game, but his shot fell short and ricocheted off the rim.

LSUA heads to LSU Shreveport on Saturday, January 31, for a 3:00 PM tip-off against the Pilots at The Dock.
