PINEVILLE, LA - The Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team put in a dominant performance, 14-2, against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles (Ariz.) (2-1) to finish the LCU Invitational undefeated.
Â
"We came out and played well," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We thought the weather would play a part and I think it did – pitching wasn't very sharp. It was an 18-degree feel like temperature and its tough to feel your fingertips; those things definitely play a part. We stayed with the mindset and the approach we came into the game with to hit balls hard and steal a bunch of bases."
Â
The Generals (3-0) set the tone of early, scoring 11 runs in the first inning on just two hits. A three-run home run from
Kaetlyn Dunbar capped the first inning. Dunbar opened the scoring as well, driving in LSUA's first run with a single through the left side. Two bases loaded walks and a hit by pitch helped force runs across the plate throughout the inning.Â
Â
Dunbar finished with two hits, two runs scored, and four runs batted in.
Â
"To score 11 runs on two hits is a testament to the offensive approach that we have," Partridge added.
Â
In the second inning, the Generals continued to put runs on the board with an RBI single from
Sophia Romero.
Rylie Jeau Theriot drove in the final runs for the Generals in the third inning with her own RBI single.
Â
Lainee Bailey (2-0) struck out three hitters across three innings to earn her second win of the season.
Â
The Eagles scored both of their runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single from Anise Romo.
Â
LSUA hosts the Generals Showdown next week and will open the weekend against Mid America Nazarene (KS) on Friday, February 6, at 1 PM.
