Louisiana State University of Alexandria Athletics is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Generals women's basketball student-athlete Kaitlyn "KK" Gallagher.
Gallagher was a member of the LSUA women's basketball team during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons and graduated from LSUA in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.
A native of Alexandria, Louisiana, and graduate of Holy Savior Menard Central High School, Gallagher appeared in 16 games for the Generals, recording 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Her impact extended well beyond the court, and she will be remembered as a caring teammate and valued member of the Generals community.
Beyond athletics, KK served as an intern with LSUA Student Life, the Division of Student Engagement, and LSUA Athletics, leaving her mark on many areas of campus life.
Following graduation, KK continued her passion for helping others by coaching softball and girls' basketball, substitute teaching, and serving in church youth groups at her alma mater, Holy Savior Menard. She also assisted with softball at Avoyelles Public Charter School. Her love for the outdoors and passion serving others led her to pursue a career as a Wildland Firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service.
"KK's joyous personality on and off the court brought out the best in everyone around her," LSUA Assistant Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics
Tyler Unsicker said. "She is a beloved member of the LSUA family. Our thoughts and prayers are with KK's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
Her tenacity on the court, matched only by her outgoing and bright personality, forever lives on in the annals of LSUA history.
LSUA Athletics extends its deepest condolences to Kaitlyn's family, loved ones, and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. The Generals family joins them in celebrating KK's life and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
