ALEXANDRIA, LA – The two-seed Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team notched an 83-69 win over seven-seed Jarvis Christian University in the Red River Athletic Conference Quarterfinal.
EJ McQuillan led the Generals (22-7) with 23 points. He added six assists, four rebounds, and one steal to his ledger.
Courtney McCarthy (17) and
PD McCraney (13) also finished in double digits. LSUA recorded 26 points in the paint, 16 points off turnovers, and the bench recorded 41 points.
Mark Wise led the Bulldogs (11-17) with 24 points. He finished 10-for-17 from the field. Erin Wright (15), Keon Gill (13), and Iversyn Smith (10) all finished with 10 or more points.
The Generals scored the game's first basket, a jumper from
Kheiri Haynes, and never looked back. They led for 39:14, or 98.1-percent of the contest's total time.
Nearly six minutes into the first half, LSUA led 14-8. They reached their first 10-point lead on a layup from
TJ James with 4:52 left in the first half.
A jumper from McQuillan with 47 seconds left put LSUA ahead 37-24 headed into halftime.
Six minutes into the second stanza, the Bulldogs cut their deficit to 11. The Generals then extended it to 19, 57-38, capped by a dunk from Decuir.
LSUA reached its first 20-point lead, 60-40, on a jumper from McQuillan with 9:37 left in regulation.
Despite the Bulldogs chipping away at the Generals' lead, cutting it to 13, LSUA went back ahead by 20, 69-49 with 5:34 left on the clock as the Purple and Gold sealed the quarterfinal victory to advance.
The Generals take on three-seed Xavier University (La.) on Saturday, February 28 at 5:30 PM at the Laborde Earles Coliseum.
