ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team fell to No. 15 William Carey University, 8-1, in a non-conference game.
The game was close through the first six innings before a two-out, four-run rally from the Crusaders (19-9) opened the game up.
Nic Arender, who came on as an early substitution for the Crusaders, drove in the game's first run in the top of the third. He drove a 2-2 pitch through the left side to score Alan McClean for a 1-0 lead.
An inning later in the bottom of the fourth,
Brett Batteford roped a single to center – driving in
Landon Langley to tie the game. Blaise Lalonde (2-0) rolled a ground-ball double play to quell the Generals' (19-10) bats.
William Carey's Hays Carley put the Crusaders back on top in the fifth. He notched an opposite field single on an 0-2 count, driving in Gage Hinnant.
Both pitching staffs retired the side in order in the sixth.
After a pair of pop outs opened the top of the seventh, Hinnant singled to left to extend the inning. Arender followed with a triple into the left center gap, before being driven in himself on a single from Carley. After a walk to Jayden Mark, Taylor Walters hit a two-run double to right for a 6-1 lead.
William Carey added a pair of runs, both unearned, in the eighth.
In the ninth,
Fischer Einkauf reached base on a two-out single but Caleb Ougel forced a pop out into foul territory to seal the victory.
