Late Heroics Give Baseball 7-5 Win over Saints in Regular Season Finale, Clinch Third in RRAC

SAN ANTONIO, TX – On a chaotic final day of the Red River Athletic Conference regular season, the Louisiana State University of Alexandria clinched third in the conference standings with a 7-5 win over Our Lady of the Lake University.

Four teams entered the day with a conference record of 19-7 and all four played each other. The Generals (32-13, 20-7) travelled to Our Lady of the Lake and Louisiana Christian University hosted LSU Shreveport with the two through five spots in the conference open for grabs.

The Generals' win and Wildcats' loss puts LSUA third in the final conference standings and means the Generals will play at home in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament.

It took four runs over the final two innings, however, for LSUA to secure their standing.

After going up 1-0 on an RBI single from Landon Langley in the first, the Generals fell behind 4-1 after the Saints scored two runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, a pair of fielder's choices allowed two to score before a pair of doubles from Christian Martinez and Drew Saucedo plated runs in the second.

Both the Generals and Saints were held in check in the third and fourth innings.

Shae Thibodeaux's sacrifice fly in the fifth made it a 4-2 ball game and Evan Rolhfs-Schadel reached on an error, allowing a second run to cross in the inning, pulling the Generals to a one-run deficit.

OLLU responded with a run of their own on a sacrifice fly by Diego Zuniga.

The bats went quiet again until the eighth inning. An RBI ground out from Dalton Wilson made it 5-4 before Cade LaBruyere scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Eli Finley kept the Saints off the board in the eighth, striking out Benjamyn Hovda with the go-ahead run on third.

A one-out single from Thibodeaux in the ninth was followed by Rohlfs-Schadel working a nine-pitch walk. Lane Patin then drew a walk on four straight pitches, loading the bases.

LaBruyere stepped to the plate with a chance to put the Generals ahead and did not miss. He roped a double on a pay-off pitch, driving in Thibodeaux and Colin Ardoin – who ran for Rohlfs-Schadel.

Nash Tamplet slammed the door in the ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Jack Cowan threw four innings of relief and allowed just one run. He struck out two. Langled recorded three hits, while LaBruyere and Cameren Parks both notched two.

The Generals are currently scheduled to host six-seed Texas A&M-Texarkana in the opening round of the RRAC.
