ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 8 Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team captured a 6-1 victory over Red River Rival Louisiana Christian University, 6-1.
The win makes LSUA 7-0 against the Wildcats across all sports this season, clinching the Red River Rivalry.
In doubles,
Nahia Echaide and Lucia Ivanova recorded a 6-0 win over Elizaveta Mikhailova and Farren Alyssia Sandy in the top pairing.
Isabella Stuurman and
Esthella Valentina Gonzalez Saiza notched a 6-1 victory in the third pairing to clinch the doubles point.
Echaide then took straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, over Mikhailova in the top singles spot.
Ekaterina Orlova recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez in No. 4 singles. Gonzalez Saiza tallied a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 win in No. 5 singles over Akari Uchiyama.
Valeria Diaz closed the match with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 comeback victory over Sandy in No. 6 singles.
Stuurman battled Raquel Coelho Rodrigues in the second singles spot. Their match lasted three hours and saw Stuurman take the win to clinch the match. After taking the first set 7-5, Stuurman fell in the second set 4-6. She battled back to capture a 6-2 win in the third set for the victory.
The Generals (7-3, 3-0 RRAC) host (RV) Lewis-Clark State, No. 5 William Carey University, and No. 23 Texas A&M-Texarkana starting Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12.
