KINGSPORT, TN – The three-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team dropped their opening game of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, 7-0, to two-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan University.
The Generals (33-17) managed just two hits offensively – one from
Shae Thibodeaux and another from
Evan Rohlfs-Schadel.
Carter Fabre (8-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed six runs, five earned, over four innings of work.
Jack Cowan tossed 3.1 innings of one-run relief.
Tennessee Wesleyan (41-14) collected eight hits offensively and registered 10 strikeouts on the mound. Josh Shelly recorded three runs batted in and Thomas Teel added a pair. Allan Gil Fernandez and Kolton Reynolds both drove in one.
Gil Fernandez put the Bulldogs on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to center field. Reynolds added a second run with an RBI single, driving around Shelly, for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, after fouling off the first six pitches of the at-bat and working the count to 2-2, Teel launched a two-run shot to left for a 4-0 lead. Shelly then drove in a pair with a single up the middle in the fifth. He added a solo home run in the eighth.
The Generals now face five-seeded William Woods University tomorrow, May 12, at 11:00 AM ET (10:00 AM CT).
