PINEVILLE, LA – A pair of big swings lifted the Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team over two-seeded Our Lady of the Lake University in the RRAC Softball Championship semifinal.
Trailing 1-0 after a second inning RBI double from OLLU's (36-10) Arianna Alejandro,
Kaetlyn Dunbar came to the plate in the third with the bases loaded.
Caitlyn Riche drew a walk to lead-off the inning before
Haley Fontenot hit a one-out double, putting runners on second and third.
Kilee Moody worked a full count before drawing a walk to bring up Dunbar. She took the first pitch she saw over the left field wall on a line, clearing the bases and giving the Generals a 4-1 lead.
Two innings later, Fontenot clubbed a lead-off solo home run on a 2-1 count to make it 5-1.
The Saints' offense found the scoreboard again in the sixth. Marisa Rosales drove in a run with a bases-loaded single. Novalee Garcia was then hit by a pitch to force home another run. The third run scored on an RBI ground out from Yezenia Perez, cutting the Generals' (34-14) lead to 5-4.
Rylee Guillot slammed the door in the seventh, rolling three ground outs, to earn the save.
Lainee Bailey (17-5) went 5.1 innings for the win. She allowed four runs on six hits. She struck out five.
LSUA heads to the RRAC Softball Championship Final scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 11:30 AM.
