Mark Hammond

Mark Hammond, a native of Dublin, Ireland, a graduate from LSUA and Missouri Baptist University, and an LSUA men’s soccer alumnus, was named the LSUA head women's soccer coach in January 2022. He is the third alumnus to lead the Generals.

In his third season with the Generals, LSUA posted a 12-5-3 record. The Generals finished 9-2-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference and made the RRAC Championship Final. Alexia Bermejo Jo set the record for most career assists (18) and Remmie Ferla became the LSUA women's soccer all-time leader in goals (22). The Generals had nine All-RRAC selections in Fenja Leibner (First Team), Alexia Bermejo Jo (Second Team), Victoria Weber (Second Team), Micaela Nunes (Honorable Mention), Shealbie Whatley (Honorable Mention), Sofia Jimeno Nogue (Honorable Mention), Sacha Backus (All-Freshman), Hille Baumfalk (All-Freshman), and Markey Day (Champions of Character).

Hammond's second season at the helm was even more successful than the first. The Generals won the program's first Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, defeating Louisiana State University Shereveport 1-0. LSUA made its first appearance in the NAIA National Soccer Tournament. The Generals finished 16-6-0, including a 10-3-0 record in RRAC play. They set program records in wins (16), goals scored (63), longest winning streak (9 games), and Remmie Ferla set the LSUA record for most goals in a season (18). Alexia Bermejo Jo (First Team), Remmie Ferla (Second Team), Bailey Tillotson (Second Team), Caroline Sorensen (Honorable Mention), and Sofia Jimeno Nogue (Honorable Mention) earned All-RRAC honors. Carolina Sorensen and Shealbie Whatley were named to the RRAC All-Freshman Team. Paige Gustin was selected to the Champions of Character Team.

In Hammond's first season at LSUA, the Generals posted an 11-6-1 record, including a 7-3-1 mark in the Red River Athletic Conference. He captured his first win as the Generals' gaffer on August 27, 2022 with a 9-2 victory over Williams Baptist (Ark.). The 2022 season saw Micah Pond (First Team), Andressa Araujo (Second Team), Tatiana Garcia (Second Team), and Eva Phillips (Second Team) earn All-RRAC honors. Alexia Bermejo Jo and Audrian Cruz were named to the RRAC All-Freshman squad. Lexi Sheridan earned a selection to the Champions of Character Team.

Prior to taking the reigns as the head women’s soccer coach, Hammond has served as an assistant coach at Jefferson College for both men and women’s soccer over two stints from 2018-2019 and 2020-2021. Hammond joined the Vikings in 2018 after graduating from LSUA and played an instrumental role in creating the first women’s soccer program in Jefferson College’s history. Returning for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Hammond oversaw both programs competing for District Championships in both postseasons while the Men’s team won back-to-back Region XI championships and the conference championship in 2021.

Between both stints at Jefferson College, Hammond accepted a graduate assistant position at Missouri Baptist University where he worked with the women’s soccer program while graduating with a master’s degree in sport management. The Spartans finished third in conference play and enjoyed their longest undefeated streak in program history. The Spartans season ended in the conference tournament final in 2019 to a defeat to Columbia College.

As an undergraduate, Hammond holds the joint all-time appearance record with 69 appearances for the LSUA men’s soccer program. Hammond was part of the inaugural soccer program freshman class. Hammond captained the program to back-to-back Red River Athletic Conference Tournament finals in 2016 and 2017 while leading the program to its first ever conference tournament championship in 2016.
