BATESVILLE, AR. - The LSUA Men's Soccer team opened their season at Lyon College Sunday afternoon . After a fight in the first half and an early goal in the second, the Generals came away with a 1-1 tie.
In the beginning of the game, the Scots, with the home advantage, started with a high pressure setup towards LSUA. They tried to take advantage of the wide areas of the field and were able to get, in the first 45 minutes, a total of 6 corners, making the defense work double shift early in the game until the end of the 1st half.
LSUA, with a couple of missed passes and connections, had a few chances but the first half finished 0-0.
After the halftime break, LSUA came with a different plan. At the 57th minute, coach Poropat started making changes on the field and brought fresh legs with
Juan Dorta for
Zac Grima and
O'Neal Edward for
Chaz Badeaux. With these changes, the Generals were able to open up the scoreboard with
O'Neal Edward (his first goal of the season) at the 59:04 mark of the game.
The home team kept fighting for almost 20 minutes until Martin Esquivel, assisted by Johan Magana, scored the equalizer goal for the Lyon Scots.
Lyon College had 15 total shots on goal for the game, 11 of which were in the second half of play, while LSUA had eight shots.
After the game coach Porpat gave us a few words:
"Lyon is always a tough match...especially away." said Head Coach
Michael Poropat. "We had some bright moments. We wanted 3 points but I'm sure Lyon did as well. Waiting on a few players to get healthy & fit. We'll get back to training this week & focus on the next opponent."
The Generals will continue their season with the men traveling to WALNUT RIDGE, ARKANSAS, Saturday, August 27th against William Baptist University.
The next home game will be Friday, September 9th, against John Melvin University at 3:00pm.
