Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Generals Win at Home, With A Point Record Breaker for Andressa Araujo

Alexandria, LA – The LSUA women's soccer team (2-1) welcomed the Texas Wesleyan University Rams to General's field for a non-conference matchup.

After a good game against Junior College foe Brookhaven last week, the Generals got off to a slow start. With just a minute and half on the clock, the Rams got their first chance. An early penalty kick was given by the referee, and Tameir Grosvenor scored for Texas Wesleyan.

As usual, LSUA put their sleeves up and got back to work, a beautiful ball by Andressa Araujo was played and Theresa Langauer scored the equalizer, just four minutes after the Rams opening goal.

Ten minutes after the equalizer and on an inspired day, Andressa Araujo received a ball from Svenja Klamt on the left corner side of the field where she dribbled through four players, until she got a clear shot and put it in the back of the net for a 2-1 lead, placing the Generals in front.

Shortly after the go-ahead goal, Araujo shined again, but this time assisting Charlotte Maconachie, who registered another goal for LSUA, ending the half with a 3-1 lead.

The second half started with an early foul setting the stage for Andresa Araujo once again.  Araujo, placed a beautiful free kick and scored again for the Generals giving her two goals and two assists on the day.

The rams were able to find a single goal in the second half by Kiki Molinar, but it wasn't enough as the Generals held on for the 4-2 victory

With this performance today, Andresa Araujo broke the LSUA Women's career points record and is two goals shy of the Generals career goals record.

"Another good test for the squad," said Head Coach Mark Hammond.  "We showed some grit to respond to the early disappointment of giving away a penalty. After we equalized, we controlled the game & took the chances we created. We'll enjoy the victory for tonight before switching focus to Thursday's test against Southern University"

LSUA is now 2-1-0 on the season and will be facing, SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY on September 15th at 4:00 PMn Baton Rouge, LA.
