LSUA (1-4-1, 0-1) opened their conference schedule slate on a sour note after dropping a game to
University of Houston-Victoria 1-0.
The loss was not only giving the visiting team bragging rights, but spoiled a much-anticipated coaching debut for Generals' head coach
Mackenzie Young.
"UHV came out strong and pressed us early, but we eventually settled down", said Young. "We have to have more composure in front of goals and put chances away when we get them."
In recent years these teams have been heated rivals and Thursday's contest was no different. The first half ended scoreless with each team giving their best efforts to top their opponent.
The Generals were active early with their offense, but failed to convert on three consecutive trips inside the box.
The energy was high as the second half got underway. After a few errant miscues defensively, the Jaguars got rolling. UHV's Callum Smith rocketed a shot via assist from Luke Mills to score the game's only score with 16:28 remaining in the game.
The Generals were resilient and challenged the Jaguars physically throughout the match. LSUA attempted 3 corner kicks in the second half; however, it was to not meant to be. The home took only two shots in final half failing to secure the much-needed tying score.
LSUA will host Huston Tillotson this Saturday at 3:30 on Generals Field. You can view live via the link provided here:
