Generals Split with No. 4 Ranked Eagles

TEXARKANA, TX-The Generals traveled to Texarkana, TX to take on the No. 4 ranked Eagles of TAMUT for conference action, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season, and almost taking game two, but falling short two runs.

Game 1—LSUA 4, Eagles 2

Taylor Spencer got the win in the circle as she held the Eagles to just four hits in game one of the double-header series. The Generals were able to go up 2-0 in the first inning as Bailey Layton's single drove in Jillian Howell and Haley Fontenot. Although the Eagles were able to answer back with 1 run of their own in the first on a walk with bases loaded, but the Generals secured all three out before the Eagles could take a lead.

A run-scoring single by freshman, Tia Holmes, in the third put the Generals ahead 3-1, and Amber Giddens was able to add another run to the lead in the fifth, as she scored from third on a passed ball making it a 4-1 ball game. The Eagles responded in the fifth as well as Stautzenberger was able to bring her teammate home giving them their second run.

Game 2—LSUA 5, Eagles 7

Although the Generals were able to outhit the Eagles 10-7 in game two, the Eagles were able to soar off with the win. After going scoreless the first two innings, the Eagles were able to get on the board with two runs in the third inning, but the Generals were able to briefly take over the lead in the fourth as they put up three runs with the help of doubles from both Destiney Jones and Lauryn McMahon. However, Eagles able to add another two runs in the fourth inning put the game at 4-3 in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles kept things rolling as they scored another two runs in the fifth inning, and their 7th and final run in the 6th. The Generals still hopeful, despite trailing the Eagles 7-3, came out swinging in the 7th inning as Tia Holmes homered with Jillian Howell on base making it a 7-5 game, however that's all the Generals were able to get as the Eagles took game two.

Next stop for the Generals will be in Hobbs, New Mexico as they take on the Southwest Mustangs in double header action on Saturday, March 18th. The first pitch of game one is set at 10:00 AM.
