HOBBS, NM- The Generals improved their conference record to 3-3 for the 2023 season after getting the sweep over the Mustangs of Southwest.
GAME ONE: LSUA 7, SWU 3
Taylor Spencer was able to improve her record on the mound as she pitched all seven innings of game one allowing only 6 hits and striking out 6 Mustangs.
When it came to battling at the plate,
Bailey Layton was able to get the ball rolling for the Generals in the 4
thinning as she doubled, bringing in K. Julien. However, Layton didn't stop there as she went 3 for 4 in game one with 4 RBIs.
Haley Fontenot also able to keep the momentum going with a homerun in the 7
th inning.
GAME TWO: LSUA 9, SWU 1
The Generals wasted no time getting on the board for game two as a scoring single from Jones brought in
Haley Fontenot, but the Mustangs able to get out of the inning before the Generals could add more runs as they left three on base.
After a scoreless second inning from both teams, the Generals left no doubt as they put up runs in the next 5 innings of play. The Mustangs were only able to respond with one run of their own in the fourth inning as Perez stole home.
Layton was able to see another successful game of batting as she went 4 for 4 at the plate. Center-fielder
Haley Fontenot, DH
Jillian Howell, and
Lauryn McMahon were also able to find their rhythm at the plate as well.
Next up the Generals will be at home to take on the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian for more conference action on March 21
st. The game one of the double-header will start at 3:00 PM.
