Generals Tame Bulldogs, 77-64, in RRAC Opener

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team opened its Red River Athletic Conference schedule with a 77-64 victory over Jarvis Christian University.

The Generals (4-0, 1-0 RRAC) were led by four double digit scorers. Jordan Decuir had a game-high 14 points, while Brayden Thompson (12), Kashie Natt (10), and EJ McQuillan (10) also recorded double digit points. Thompson added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He hauled in six offensive rebounds. LSUA recorded 29 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points, and 34 points in the paint. The Generals' bench tallied 46 points.

"We started off with a lot of emotion," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "I think defensively we were fine in a lot of areas. Offensively we have a lot to clean up. We need to be a little more disciplined and a little tougher, but I'm proud of the guys for sticking it out and being able to pull off the win."

LSUA stormed out to a nine-point advantage in the first seven minutes of play, 18-9. Keyon Giroir knocked down a three for the game's first points and Kaleb Pouncy followed him with a bucket in the paint. After a four-point play from the Bulldogs, Natt drained a trey. TJ James followed with a bucket of his own. McQuillan knocked down a pair of threes for the Generals' next two baskets, before a dunk from Thompson.

The Generals took their first double digit lead on a jumper from Xavier Smith with 9:18 left in the first half. After extending the advantage to 14 on another jumper from Smith with 3:31 on the clock, the Bulldogs worked the gap to 10 to close the first half, 37-27.

Jarvis Christian pulled within six in the first five minutes of the second stanza, 46-40. A 7-0 run from the Generals put LSUA up 14, 54-40, with 12:38 left in regulation. From there, the Generals' lead remained in double digits for the remainder of the game.

LSUA's lead dipped to 10 as the Bulldogs chipped away with 3:18 remaining, but consecutive baskets from Jakemin Abney, Thompson, and Decuir, and a free throw from McQuillan extended their advantage to 17, 75-58, with 1:22 left.

The Generals are on the road on Saturday, November 16, as they travel to Texas A&M-Texarkana for an RRAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
