No. 6 Men's Basketball Takes Down TAMUT, 86-71

TEXARKANA, Texas – The No. 6 Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball recorded an 86-71 victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana in a Red River Athletic Conference match-up.
 
"A good road win," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "Texarkana is coming off a really good win versus LSU Shreveport, who is a top 25 team. Hats off to our guys for staying level-headed and weathering the runs by Texarkana. However, we have to be more disciplined in areas in every aspect. We are proud of our guys!"
 
Kashie Natt led the Generals (5-0, 2-0 RRAC) with 20 points. He shot 7-for-15 from the field and went 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Natt added nine rebounds and one assist to his totals. EJ McQuillan (15), Jason Perry II (13), and Jakemin Abney (10) all reach double digits in points. TJ James was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and hauled in seven rebounds.
 
LSUA shot 45.3 percent from the floor and held an edge in rebounding, 40-29. The Generals scored 34 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points, and the bench recorded 45 points.
 
The Generals scored the first six points of the contest, before the Eagles responded with a three and a mid-range jumper. The score stayed close as the lead changed hands three times in the opening minutes.
 
A free throw from Jordan Decuir eight and a half minutes into the period tied the score at 16-16 and opened a 9-2 run for the Generals. Brayden Thompson tallied a layup and Abney knocked down a pair of threes to put LSUA ahead 24-18. The Generals ended the first half with a 36-33 lead.
 
The Eagles briefly took the lead in the second half, 38-36, but a three from McQuillan and a layup from Isaiah Howard on consecutive possessions put the Generals back ahead, 41-38, with 17:35 to play in regulation.
 
Over the next six minutes, LSUA pushed the lead to 66-54 in a 25-16 swing. A three from Perry II capped the run. The Generals outscored Texas A&M-Texarkana 50-38 in the second half, while shooting 55.2 percent from the field and 13-for-15 at the free throw line. They held the Eagles to a shooting percentage of just 35.5 during the second half, including a 4-for-12 mark from deep.
 
The Generals are back at home for a Red River Athletic Conference game against Texas College on Tuesday, November 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM at The Fort.
