Women's Soccer Scores Three Unanswered to Take Down LSUS in RRAC Semifinal

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to advance to the RRAC Championship Final with a 3-1 win over one seed LSU Shreveport.

"Massive effort from the squad today," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "We weathered the period when they were in the ascendency but I think we controlled most of the game. Massive credit to the side coming back from a goal down after conceding a goal against the run of play. We'll enjoy this win for a few hours before we turn our focus to Thursday."

The Generals peppered the Pilots in the second half, sending 11 shots towards goal. They finished with 16 in total, nine of which were on frame. LSUA held Shreveport to just six, including only two in the first half.

Dawniella Torres gave the Pilots a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute off a corner. She lifted a ball through the Generals in the box.

LSUA had a pair of chances shortly after the Pilots' goal, both missed the net. A third chance came from Baumfalk in the 65th minute, off a corner rom Micaela Nunes, but was turned away by Melanie Garcia. Nunes had a chance of her own in the 70th minute, blasting a low shot, which a diving Garcia stymied.

In the 71st minute Baumfalk found the equalizer. She cleaned up a loose ball in the box, levelling the score at 1-1.

Six minutes later, the Generals struck again. A foul against the Pilots' set up a free kick in the attack third from a dangerous position. Alexia Bermejo Jo slotted her shot for a 2-1 advantage.

Baumfalk's brace came in the 86th minute. She found herself alone in the top of the 18 and rifled home a shot, giving LSUA a bit of breathing space and a 3-1 advantage.

Victoria Weber kept the game 3-1 with a save in the 88th minute, her fourth stop of the contest. She made a pair of stops in each half.

LSUA advances to the 2024 RRAC Championship Final and will face the winner of Xavier (La.) versus Louisiana Christian. Kick-off for the final is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
