Generals Fend Off Tigers in RRAC Victory, 64-55

DALLAS, Texas – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team won their third consecutive game with a 63-55 victory over Paul Quinn College.

"It has been a long week," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "It's a great win to end a long road trip. Every did a good job and I'm proud of their effort."

Dannah Martin-Hartwick led the Generals (9-2, 6-1 RRAC) with 19 points over the Tigers (5-5, 4-3 RRAC). She knocked down a trio of threes and went 8-for-9 at the free throw line. Jewel Jones and Amani Gray each recorded 10 points. Jones notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

After the first quarter, LSUA trailed 18-12. The Tigers extended their lead to eight, 23-15, midway through the second quarter.

A three from Jones and a layup from Gray brought the score to 23-20 with 2:57 left in the half. Martin-Hartwick closed the second quarter by scoring the Generals' last eight points, five of which came at the free throw line, sending LSUA trailing by two at the half, 30-28.

Martin-Hartwick's run continued at the start of the third quarter. She opened the scoring with a tip-in before knocking down a three on the next possession, putting LSUA ahead 33-30.

The lead changed hands for much of the third quarter, until Addison Walker converted a tip-in with 3:27 on the clock. Her basket put the Generals up by one, 39-38. She then made a pair of free throws, followed by a pair from Jones, and a layup from Alexis Dyer. The 8-0 gave LSUA a 45-38 advantage.

After the Tigers cut the lead to one, 47-46, early in the fourth quarter, baskets from Jones and Blair Smith pushed the Generals' edge to five. A three from Paul Quinn made it 51-49 before Gray, Dyer, and Smith converted consecutive layups for a 57-49 lead and the Generals held on for a 64-55 victory.

LSUA returns to The Fort for a pair of Red River Athletic Conference games next week. They host Huston-Tillotson University on Thursday, December 12, at 5:30 PM before welcoming North American University on Saturday, December 14, at 1:00 PM.
