Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Nabs 1-0 Victory over Science and Arts (Okla.)

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team (2-1-0) captured a 1-0 victory over the University of Science and Arts (1-1-0), 1-0.

"I was disappointed with us," LSUA Head Coach Mackenzie Young said. "They [USAO] were playing with nine men and at times it felt like we were playing with nine. It was nice to get a win but overall not impressed."

Valeriu Tarlev notched his first clean sheet of the season. The Generals finished with 18 shots and held USAO to just four.

After a shot from USAO's Dani Suarez in the seventh minute, the Generals had their first chance in the 17th. A well-placed corner kick from Joshua Angel Craven found the head of Pablo Dominguez De Leòn, but the Drovers' keeper turned the chance aside. Angel Craven sent a shot wide right in the 19th minute.

The Drovers went down to 10 men in the 26th minute.

Angel Craven found himself in a shooting position again in the 27th minute from a free kick but whistled it just high.

Tarlev made his only stop of the contest in the 33rd minute. He stymied a shot from Sebastian Boldt, preserving the 0-0 score.  A chance from Paul Adler two minutes later was parried by Angel Diaz.

In the 39th minute, Angel Craven placed another corner kick inside the box, allowing Alfie Lee to take a chance with a header, but the effort went over the crossbar.

The second half was not dissimilar to the first. A red card in the 55th minute dropped USAO to nine players, while the Generals continued to rack up chances.

A headed effort by Mackenzie Vincent in the 54th minute forced Diaz to make another save for USAO.

LSUA doubled their shot total from the opening half, taking 12 chances in the second period. The Generals held USAO to just one shot in the second half.

The game's lone goal came in the 81st minute. Adam Sherwood sent a corner kick into the box where the ball ricocheted and caromed, striking a USAO defender and slipping into the back of the net.

"Two really tough trips coming up," Young added. "We have a top 20 opponent with Bethel and then Freed-Hardeman on Monday, so we need to get back to the drawing board this Monday."

The Generals are on the road next week in Tennessee for a non-conference match against Bethel University on Saturday (August 31) at 1:00 PM.
