ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alfie Lee converted a pair of penalties as the Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team won 3-2 over the University of the Southwest.
"I can't fault these guys and their mentality to come back today," LSUA Head Coach
Mackenzie Young said. "It's nice having a guy like him [Alife Lee] who has the composure and ice in his veins to go and get two penalties today."
The Mustangs (3-3-1, 1-2-1 RRAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute on a goal from Nicolas Amparan. He one-timed a pass from Yahir Chacon into the back of the net. They added a second goal in the 23
rd minute from Cesar Duran.
Prior to Southwest's second goal, the Generals (4-3-1, 2-0-1 RRAC) earned a penalty.
Adam Sherwood's effort was stymied by Jeremy Rueda in net for the Mustangs.
Pablo Dominguez de León cut the Generals' deficit in half in the 31
st minute.
Federico Gilardi and
George McKenzie combined to find Dominguez in the box, who slipped his shot past the keeper.
Seven minutes later, LSUA was awarded their second penalty of the contest. Lee buried the chance, levelling the score at 2-2.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were quiet with only one shot a side. The Generals had a flurry of chances starting in the 63
rd minute but none found the back of the net.
Valeriu Tarlev kept the score even in the 66
th minute, parrying a chance from Amparan.
With under two minutes left in the game,
Tony Rivas won a penalty and it sent Lee back to the spot. Lee converted his second chance to put the Generals ahead 3-2.
LSUA finished with 23 shots, seven were on goal. Tarlev finished with three saves.
The Generals are on the road next week as they travel to Texas College on Thursday, October 3, for another RRAC match.
