PINEVILLE, La. – The No. 4 Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team won its 12
th straight game with a 71-63 victory over Louisiana Christian University in the Red River Rivalry.
The Generals (18-1, 15-1 RRAC) snapped the Wildcats' (9-10, 8-7 RRAC) six-game winning streak.
"It was an ugly win," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "But that's sometimes how these games go. Things don't go your way, some things you can't control. Kudos to our guys for standing up there and being able to finish in an environment that is tough to win in. They were on a six-game winning streak, so good job by our guys to handle some adversity and being able to stand it and get the victory."
Kashie Natt led the Generals with 24 points and 16 rebounds. He shot 50 percent from the field and went 9-for-13 at the free throw line. Seven of his 16 rebounds came off the offensive glass. Natt added five assists, one block, and two steals to his ledger.
Brayden Thompson tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
EJ McQuillan also recorded five rebounds and notched seven points. LSUA recorded 32 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, seven second chance points, and the bench chipped in 22.
Over the first seven minutes of the contest, LSUA staked out a 17-7 lead. Natt,
Nicholas Kaigler, Thompson,
Jordan Decuir, and
Keyon Giroir all scored over the course of the run. The Wildcats spend the remainder of the half chipping away at the Generals' lead, cutting it down to three at the end of the half, 35-32.
The Generals pushed their advantage back to seven, 41-34, over the opening 95 seconds of the second half with two points each from Thompson,
Isaiah Howard, and Natt. Again, the Wildcats pulled back to three, 45-42, with 15:57 left in regulation.
A three from
Jakemin Abney, and a layup from Thompson on the next possession, brought LSUA's edge to eight, 50-42.
The seesaw battle continued throughout the half. Louisiana Christian cutting into the Generals' lead. The Generals responding by pushing it back each time.
Ahead by four, 62-58, LSUA opened a 9-2 run for an 11-point lead. The run started with a layup from Natt, followed by a jumper from McQuillan, and a dunk from Decuir. After a pair of free throws from the Wildcats, Abney drained a three for the 71-60 lead with 1:24 on the clock to season the victory.
LSUA is back in action on Thursday, January 30, against Paul Quinn College as the Generals host Academic Night at The Fort. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
